Movie Maker

How to make a movie was my favorite thing that I learned in this class and I can't wait to use it in my classroom. I had no idea that I could make a movie with photos I took or someone else took.

Turn It In

I thought the turn it in webpage was very cool in the fact that you can tell if even the smallest paragraph is plagerized. If I end up not teaching P-K or K I will use this sight with my students and teach them teh correct way to write a paper.

Web Tools

Tonight's class on web tools was very interesting. I liked the test maker and the puzzle maker tools the best. I also think that the rubrics will be helpful for grading in my classroom, however it was kind of difficult for me to understand at first and I think it will take me a while to make a rubric. Therefore, I hope I don't need to do that very often. Good luck to everyone on using web tools.

Post Spring break

I miss spring break already and this only day 2 back at school. Hope everyone had a great spring break!

IT 365 Midterm Essay Questions

IT 365 Midterm Essay Questions
1. How does an understanding of computer terminology assist a student with successful operation of current computer hardware components (Chapt. 1)?

If a student has an understanding of computer terminology then he/she can easily understand the user friendly help options and automatic features that are provided on the new hardware.

2. What components of a computer are essential for general classroom use (Chapt. 1)?

Tower computer, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Printer, Software and Hardware are the components of a computer that are essential for general classroom use.

3. Why are technology standards and profiles for teachers and students necessary (Chapt. 2)

Technology standards and profiles are necessary for teachers to provide guidelines for applying information technology in educational settings. These standards and profiles and standards must be met before a teacher is certified. Technology standards and profiles for students which are divided into six categories must be introduced, reinforced, and mastered by students are necessary so that the teachers can use them as guidelines for planning technology-based activities in which students achieve success in learning, communication, and life skills. These standards and profiles are in place to insure that students receive the best education possible with the use of technology.

4. What role does technology play in the context of learning 21st century skills and content (Chapt. 2)?

Technology is to be used with the ultimate goal of improved and enriched student learning, such as improved scores on standardized test, increased application and production of knowledge for the real world, increased ability for students to manage learning, increased ability to promote achievement for special needs students, and improved access to information that increases knowledge, inquiry and depth of investigation.

5. Give some examples as to how you would use concept-mapping tools to address different learning styles (Chapt. 3)?

I would use concept-mapping to plan my lesson and give a copy to each student so that they could see what they will be doing and if there are any items that they could work on at their own pace they could do so. This may be what some students want while others may want to stay on track with me as I teach the class. The concept-map would also give the students a way to keep track of what they are to be doing for homework or in class.

6. How can you utilize productivity software to enhance teaching and learning (Chapt. 3)?

You can let the students use word processing to type their reports instead of hand writing them so they can save time when it comes to correcting them and turning in the final copy, which allows for more teaching and learning time. This process can also help the environment by using less paper if the teacher looks at the rough draft on the computer rather than printing it out. If you use a database to store your lesson plans from years past and the materials that are used with each lesson you can save time which can be spent planning new more interesting information to teach the students.

7. How successful are you at finding information online? What are your personal search habits (Chapt. 4)?

I am usually successful in finding the information that I am looking for online. Sometimes it takes a while to find exactly what I want, but other times to my amazement I find it immediately. I use either Yahoo or Google as my search engines. I do not type in websites when I am searching, but rather a one or two keywords and then search. If this does not get me what I am looking for I type a more descriptive topic and try again until I find what I need.

8. Describe a learning situation that illustrates the difference between technology that is integrated into a lesson and technology that is tacked onto a lesson (Chapt. 5).

An example of technology being integrated into a lesson would be reading a book on a specific topic to the class and then having them visit a website having to do with same topic and maybe having them print some color sheets from the website by themselves. An example of technology being tacked onto a lesson would be teaching a book-based literature lesson and at the end of the lesson having the students visit a website about the book’s author.

9. In what classroom situation would an online simulation be an appropriate learning tool (Chapt. 6)?

An online simulation would be an appropriate learning tool in a classroom that was learning about pollution in the environment. The students would have to have knowledge of how to operate the simulation and the consequences of the pollutants in real life as well as in the simulation so that they could make decisions during the simulation process.

10. What are some of the strategies for keeping the documents of a Website organized (Chapt. 6)?

A strategy for organizing a website would be to categorize all of your resources into groups for you, groups for the students, and groups for the parents. You could have a student page, a parent page, a lesson page and a teacher page so that whoever was visiting your site would have a better idea of where they needed to be looking for the information they wanted to find.

Busy Week!

I am so glad that the last 7 days are almost over. I had to throw a baby shower for my sister-in-law on Saturday, which I loved, but it took up a lot of my homework time. I had a presentation and a paper due yesterday and then a math test this morning, so when this class is over I will much relieved. I hope everyone has a great week.
